Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara Shines with Solar Power

Guided by the Chief Incumbent and Custodian of the historic Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara, Ven. Dr. Walawahengunawave Dhammaratana Thero, and supported by the noble contributions of devotees together with Manusath Derana, a solar panel project with a capacity of 80 kilowatts was recently offered to the Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara.
This initiative provides an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution to meet the electricity needs of the sacred premises, further illuminating the religious and cultural heritage of Mihintale—the cradle of Sri Lankan Buddhist civilization.
Through the visionary leadership of Ven. Dr. Dhammaratana Thero and the generous support of devotees in collaboration with Manusath Derana, a new era of harnessing solar energy for Buddhist shrines in Sri Lanka has begun.
The offering ceremony was conducted with reverence, attended by the monastic community, devotees, and local residents. Meeting the temple’s electricity needs through solar power now stands as a symbol of generosity, sustainability, and cultural preservation.
