Patient Bedside Units Strengthen Healthcare at Cyclone Ditwa‑Affected Chilaw District General Hospital
The Chilaw District General Hospital, severely affected by Cyclone Ditwa, received a significant boost to its recovery efforts thanks to the generosity of the Halton Peel Buddhist Cultural Society of Canada. Under the spiritual guidance of Most Venerable Kulugammana Dhammavasa Thero, the Society donated 86 bedside units valued at Rs. 2 million, coordinated and officially handed over by Manusath Derana with the leadership of Venerable Keembi Ela Kassapa Thero.
This initiative is a shining example of how the Sri Lankan diaspora continues to stand in solidarity with communities back home. The Halton Peel Buddhist Cultural Society’s contribution not only strengthens the hospital’s ability to deliver essential patient care but also reflects a deep commitment to global humanitarian values.
Beyond immediate relief, the donation directly advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By enhancing healthcare facilities, it supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being. By ensuring equitable access to medical equipment for disaster-affected communities, it contributes to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. By helping rebuild critical public infrastructure, it strengthens SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. And by fostering collaboration between Sri Lankan communities abroad and local humanitarian movements, it exemplifies SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
